Elīna Garanča, born into a family of musicians in Riga, Latvia, began her professional career as an artist-in-residence at the Südthüringischer Staatstheater in Meiningen, followed by Frankfurt am Main Opera and the Wiener Staatsoper, each with numerous leading roles.
Since then, Elīna has established herself as one of the foremost stars in the music world through performances with leading opera companies and symphony orchestras around the globe. She has been acclaimed by critics and audiences for her beautiful voice, intelligent musical mastery, and compelling theatrical performances.
Among her various roles, her interpretation of Bizet's Carmen stands out, which she has sung in most major theaters worldwide, such as the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, Bayerische Staatsoper, Palau de les Arts Reina Sofía Valencia, and the Metropolitan Opera, garnering critical acclaim. The NY Times hailed her as "the best Carmen in 25 years..." The Met's production of Carmen was broadcast in over 1,000 cinemas worldwide and is one of the most viewed and successful "Live in HD" presentations by the Metropolitan Opera.
Recent highlights include a new production of Samson et Dalila at the Royal Opera House with Antonio Pappano conducting, the Europakonzert with the Berlin Philharmonic under the baton of Kirill Petrenko at the Great Amber Concert Hall in Liepāja, Latvia—a concert for peace and coexistence in Europe, broadcast live in over 30 countries and transmitted to more than 80 countries. During the 2021/22 season, Elīna made her debut as La Principessa di Bouillon in Cilea's Adriana Lecouvreur at the Wiener Staatsoper. In 2022, Elīna starred in various festivals and galas throughout Europe, America, and East Asia.
In September 2005, Elina became an exclusive artist for Deutsche Grammophon (DG). Her first solo recording, 'Aria Cantilena,' was released in March 2007 to great success with both the public and critics. Two of her previous albums ('Romantique' and 'Meditation') received the ECHO Klassik award. Her album 'Sol y Vida' was released in May 2019 and received unanimous praise from critics: "Garanča's selection of exotic Mediterranean and Latin American songs fits perfectly with her mature and seductive timbre." (Gramophone). In November 2020, she released her first solo recital album, featuring Schumann's Frauenliebe und Leben song cycle and a selection of Brahms' songs, followed by the album 'Live from Salzburg,' released in December 2021, documenting two notable events at the Salzburg Festival in the summers of 2020 and 2021 with the Vienna Philharmonic and Christian Thielemann.
Elīna has received numerous national and international awards, valuing greatly the title of 'Kammersängerin' awarded by the Wiener Staatsoper for her dedication to the company, having sung over one hundred sixty performances in eighteen roles since her debut at the House in 2003.
Elīna regularly appears at the Metropolitan Opera, Wiener Staatsoper, ROH Covent Garden, Salzburg Festival, Festspielhaus Baden Baden, Bayerisches Staatsoper Munich, Deutsche Oper Berlin, Carnegie Hall New York, and Wigmore Hall London, and continues to perform in various concerts, festivals, and recitals around the world.

Constantine Orbelian was born in San Francisco, California to migrant parents of Russian and Armenian origin and made his debut as a piano prodigy at the age of eleven. After graduating from The Juilliard School, he began his career as a virtuoso pianist, working with leading orchestras in the United States, the United Kingdom, Europe, and Russia. For thirty years, he has been a central figure in the music scene of Russia and Eastern Europe, serving as the conductor of the Moscow Chamber Orchestra and the Russian Philharmonic. He is the founder of the International Music Festival of the Palaces of St. Petersburg and the Chief Conductor of the Kaunas City Orchestra in Lithuania.
His appointment as the musical director of the Moscow Chamber Orchestra in 1991 was unprecedented, as he became the first American to hold such a position in Russia.
From his presentation in 1995 during the United Nations' 50th-anniversary celebrations in San Francisco to his performance in 2004 at the Department of State commemorating seventy years of diplomatic relations between Washington and Moscow, and another presentation at the Department of State in 2007 with the Moscow Chamber Orchestra, he continues, through art, to work towards building international goodwill relations. In 2001, he was featured in a CBS Sunday Morning episode titled "To Russia with Love." He tirelessly serves as an international ambassador for cultural exchange between Russia and the United States through his constant world tours.
In May 2010, he conducted the concert announcing the 2014 Sochi Olympic Games. In 2012, the Consulate of Russia in San Francisco awarded him the Medal of the Order of Friendship, an honor bestowed upon individuals who positively contribute to relations between the United States and Russia.
In 2016, he was appointed General and Artistic Director of the Academic Opera and Ballet Theater in Yerevan, Armenia. During his four-year stay in Armenia, he produced new stagings of operas such as Bizet's "Carmen," Mozart's "The Magic Flute," Massenet's "Manon," and Karen Khachaturian's ballet "Cipollino." He also restored a historic production of Donizetti's "Poliuto," produced the ballet "La bohème" with music by Charles Aznavour, and brought Renée Fleming to Armenia for her first recital.
In 2018, he led the Armenian Ballet Company onto the Bolshoi Theatre stage in Moscow for a performance of Aram Khachaturian's ballet "Gayaneh." He also conducted at the new Kuwait Opera House during the 2018 season. In these and other venues, he has conducted concerts and recordings with some of the world's most important singers.
Opera News has referred to him as the "dream collaborator for singers" and noted his ability to direct vocal repertoire "with the sensitivity of a Lieder pianist." The director, who spends most of his time in California, tours and records with American stars like Renée Fleming, Sondra Radvanovsky, Lawrence Brownlee, and Stephen Costello. He has made numerous recordings under the Delos label with the great Dmitri Hvorostovsky.
His performances in the United States include numerous concerts in the Great Performers series at venues like Lincoln Center, Stern Auditorium, Carnegie Hall, and the Mostly Mozart Festival, as well as major musical centers in the United States, Canada, Central, and South America.
His frequent collaborations with Hvorostovsky included recordings of universal songs such as "Where Are You, My Brothers?" and "Moscow Nights," as well as the 2015 recording of the album "Wait for Me." His recordings with Hvorostovsky of Verdi's "Simon Boccanegra" and "Rigoletto" have become legendary.
His recording of Khachaturian's Piano Concerto, conducted by Neeme Järvi and released under the Chandos label, won the UK's Recording of the Year award in 1987. He was awarded the title of Honorary Artist of Russia in 2004, a distinction previously never granted to a non-Russian citizen.
He has been nominated for the GRAMMY® Awards on four occasions, for recordings with Lawrence Brownlee on the album "Virtuoso Rossini Arias," with Dmitri Hvorostovsky for the song cycle "Russia Cast Adrift" by Gueorgui Svirídov, for "Rigoletto" by Verdi, also with Hvorostovsky, and for the album of bel canto arias "A te, o cara," with Stephen Costello.
On June 7, 2021, he was appointed the Music Director of the New York City Opera.
